The central defender, who has appeared in our recent matches against Aston Villa in the Capital One Cup and Anji Makhachkala in the Europa League following his summer transfer from Steaua Bucharest, would dearly love to travel to Brazil with his compatriots for next summer’s finals.
But he is under no illusions about the size of the task at hand.
Romania are currently fourth in Group D, and must haul themselves above Hungary and Turkey in a bid to try and secure the runners-up spot in the group, in the hope that they can do enough to claim a place in the play-offs.
They travel to Andorra tonight, before hosting Estonia on Tuesday – and Vlad has reiterated that winning those games remains vital.
“We have to win – this is the most important thing for us,” said the 23-year-old.
“If we win these games and Hungary and Turkey draw one of their games, we are going to play-offs, but we have another hard game in store.”
Vlad added that he’d relish the chance to go to Brazil with Romania next summer, should they qualify.
“I hope we can qualify,” he said. “It would be an incredible thing for me. I would be proud to get to Brazil, for sure.”
