Momentum important before break - Vlad

Vlad Chiriches believes it’s important to collect the points against Newcastle United this weekend in our last game before the international break.

The lads were deflated after we slumped to defeat against West Ham United immediately preceding last month’s international fixtures, but with another home game this Sunday – our second in three days – central defender Vlad hopes we can continue our momentum heading into the latest pause in the Premier League schedule.

“It’s a good motivation if we can win,” insisted the 23-year-old. “It’s good for our position if we can go into the break with a win.

“We hope to perform well in the game and hopefully we can get the points.”

Our defence has come in for widespread acclaim this season having kept 13 clean sheets in 18 games – with Vlad playing a key role in such an impressive run of shut-outs.

As of this moment, we are yet to concede a goal in any of the six games the Romanian national team’s captain has started for us in all competitions.

And Vlad is keen to extend that run against the Magpies on Sunday lunchtime.

“I feel very good about the clean sheets,” he added. “It’s a good feeling for all the team to have so many games without conceding any goals, and it’s a good thing for us in the long-term.”
