Trailing 1-0 at Craven Cottage with 72 minutes on the clock, the defender picked up a clearance from a corner, controlled and drilled back a half-volley into the bottom corner from 35 yards.
It was a memorable first goal for us and most importantly, got us back on level terms after Ashkan Dejagah opened the scoring for the home team 15 minutes earlier.
The comeback was completed in equally impressive fashion as Lewis Holtby cut inside before rifling home from 22 yards.
“It was a good finish,” said Vlad modestly after becoming the first Romanian to score for us since Gheorghe Popescu back in 1995.
“It was the equaliser and it helped the team turn the game around, so I’m delighted.
“I saw the line of the ball and saw it fly into the goal, that was great. To score an equaliser like that after we were 1-0 down is good for the team, so I’m happy.”
Vlad impressed again in central defence, but he reserved praise for goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who made three top-drawer saves to help us secure maximum points.
“Hugo was great, he saved us in a of situations, we have to thank him a lot,” added Vlad.
