Ledley King said the 2-1 victory over Aston Villa on Boxing Day was vital after the pre-Christmas setback up at Newcastle.

The team made it 12 home wins in a row against Villa - courtesy of two goals from Jermain Defoe - and it is form on home territory that sees us maintain a decent position in the Premiership standings as we head into another home encounter against Liverpool on Saturday.

"Obviously it has been going great at home and that is what is keeping us up there in the league at the moment," reasoned the skipper.

"After losing up at Newcastle with a disappointing performance it was vitally important that we came home and got three points again.

"Overall our form has been good, but there has been little blips when the performances have gone out of the window a little bit. It happened at Arsenal, Reading too and we still need to put it right away from home.

"Thankfully our home record is great."
