Snapped up from AZ Alkmaar on July 12, the Dutch striker travelled to Australia for our International Champions Cup matches against Juventus and Atletico Madrid.
He started both matches, playing for an hour in the 2-1 loss against Juve on Tuesday before completing 75 minutes against Atletico as we suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat on Friday.
But it’s time off the pitch that has counted for so much for both Vincent and fellow newcomer Victor Wanyama.
“Pre-season is tough but it’s nice to make this trip and play in such big games,” said the striker. “You always get to know your team-mates better when you come away on a trip like this and you are together for a whole week.”
As well as those important pre-season matches, the trip Down Under has been ideal for the getting-to-know-you process while Vincent has also seen first-hand our work in the community.
He attended a coaching clinic with Special Olympics in Melbourne on Wednesday. “It’s great to come out here and go into the community,” he said. “To see the smiles on the kids’ faces and see them enjoying football is something special. That’s what it’s all about.”
