Juan Pablo Angel's fifth-minute header proved enough and although Villa had the best of it, hitting the bar in a storming start to the second half, we certainly had enough efforts on goal - the final shot count was 11-10 in Villa's favour.
Acting boss David said: "I thought we started the game well but we then conceded after five minutes, whether it was a good goal for them or bad goal for us, that free-kick was just about the first time they got into our half.
"After that, our goalkeeper didn't have anything else to do in the first half.
"If you look at the second period after the 10 minutes when they had three excellent shots from the edge of the box, two that went wide and one that hit the bar, we came again.
"Had we lost a goal the game would have been lost. We showed good spirit, kept at it but weren't clinical enough when we went forward. "
David Pleat conceded we weren't clinical enough going forward in Sunday's 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa.
