Dimitar Berbatov has talked about the growing reputation of Spurs as he's watched the Premiership from Germany.

The club has certainly blossomed in the last couple of seasons with Martin Jol taking us up to ninth in 2004-05 followed by a highest-ever finish in the Premiership with fifth place last term, a points tally of 65 and a first qualification for Europe via league position since 1982-83.

“The club’s reputation is growing,†said Dimitar, pictured in the new 2006/2007 homre shirt at Spurs Lodge this afternoon. “In the past maybe something was missing, I’m not sure what, but the club is going up and up and that’s why people are starting to notice Tottenham and speak about them.

“I watched Tottenham from Germany and I’m very happy to be here with a young team and a club that is building something special. I want to be part of it and to play my part and that is to score goals.

“My new career starts here and it’s a new adventure for me.â€Â

England and the Premiership is of course that ‘new adventure’ for Dimitar who hopes to bring his prolific goalscoring feats in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen – he was second top goalscorer in the league last season with 21 goals – with him to north London.

“I hope I can transfer my form from the Bundesliga to the Premiership because that’s why Spurs bought me,†added the 25-year-old. “I will try everything to do that. I want to make the team and the fans happy.

“Everyone says the games in the Premiership are quicker and you have to adapt to that. I’ve heard the players are great here and I can’t wait to meet them and work with them.

“The club is ambitious to play in the Champions League. Unfortunately it didn’t quite happen last season but I hope we can make it next season. The Premiership is one of the best leagues in Europe, many players want to come here, I’m here already and I hope to quickly get into the games and into the goals.â€Â
