Most of the lads - including new signings Dimitar Berbatov and Benoit Assou-Ekotto - returned to Spurs Lodge for the start of pre-season training on Wednesday.

Bulgarian international striker Dimitar and highly-rated full-back Benoit kicked-off their pre-season preparations with fitness tests this afternoon.

Clive Allen's development squad were first up this morning and he was delighted to report excellent fitness levels from a group including the likes of Charlie Lee, Charlie Daniels and Kieran McKenna.

These are the first steps on the path Clive hopes will lead to a successful defence of the reserve league title won last season.

“The younger group were the first lads to go out for the physical testing and they’ve come back in great shape, which is good to see,†reported Clive.

“They all did very well and there are a number of tests to see exactly where they are at in terms of fitness. That forms a base line to work from as pre-season progresses and the season gets underway.

“The lads were great on their weights and they all know what football is about now, these are highly-tuned athletes and if they come back even a pound overweight they will struggle. They are professional, they look in good shape and they’ve all done well on the tests.â€Â
