The Dutch international is seen as arguably Sir Alex Ferguson's key capture of the summer after a string of fine early displays in a United shirt.Van der Sar had already showed what he was all about in four seasons at Fulham after arriving in the Premiership via Ajax and Juventus in 2001. He moved to United in June.
Our Dutch goalkeeping coach Hans said: "Van der Sar is one of the best goalkeepers around, not just in the Premier League, but across Europe.
"He did tremendously well at Fulham, United was a new challenge for him and he's risen to the occasion.
United is a similar situation to when he was at Ajax, one of the biggest teams in Holland, not much do in a lot of games and occasionally one or two saves to make
The same happens and Manchester United so all credit to him, one key aspect of that job is concentration and being ready at the right time and he's done that.
"United is a tough place to be a keeper. Any mistake his highlighted but that's the name of the game and the job of a goalkeeper - a striker can miss five or six chances but score the winner and he's the hero, a goalkeeper might make five or six great saves but then makes the mistake that costs a 1-0 defeat. That is something we all have to cope with.
"The key is not to make too many mistakes and that's the difference between a good goalkeeper and a top international goalkeeper - Van der Sar and, of course, Robbo fall into that category."
Hans Segers had few doubts that Edwin Van der Sar would flourish on the Old Trafford stage.
