Under-21 side named

Posted on 27 February 2001  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

England under-21 coach Howard Wilkinson has not named Spurs trio Luke Young, Ledley King and Alton Thelwell in his starting line-up for Tuesday night's friendly against Spain at St Andrews.

Manchester United midfielder Mark Wilson will earn his first England Under-21 cap alongside skipper and in-form Blackburn
midfielder David Dunn.

Aston Villa centre-back Gareth Barry, surprisingly left out of the senior squad, will partner Chelsea's Jon Terry at the heart of the defence, while Leeds striker Alan Smith, who was in the full squad for the international in Italy in November, will be the lone central striker with support from the flanks coming from Luke Chadwick and Malcolm Christie.

Wilkinson, looking for a confidence boost ahead of next month's European qualifiers with Finland at Barnsley on March 23 and in Albania four days later, has indicated that he wishes to look at uncapped players at some stage which could see Thelwell step into the international limelight.
