But Alex is confident his team have learned from this experience and will show all the necessary maturity to get the job done at Vale Park.
He said: “We’ve been playing some good football and we’re looking forward to the game, but as with any cup competition, we’ve got to expect the unexpected. Our form will give us confidence but it might not count for much on the night.
“Port Vale knocked out Bolton at the Reebok in the previous round and they have a first-team player in their squad, and therefore plenty of experience.
“I’d like to think we would have learnt from Chester last season, the lads have had longer together now and have overcome a lot of obstacles as a team.”
