LONDON YOUTH FA CUP FINAL (at Mile End Stadium)
Tottenham Hotspur U13s 3
Leyton Orient U13s 2
A see-sawing London Youth FA Cup Final was finally won by Spurs with a rousing finish to come from behind to take the trophy.
A sixth minute goal from the boot of Hannah Mills gave Spurs a flying start and Spurs had the bulk of the chances, but two goals from goalmouth scrambles put Orient ahead at the interval.
After the break it was much the same story as the Tottenham team pushed forward relentlessly.
Opportunities were not converted and when it looked like the equaliser would not come, a corner was cleared to Leesa Shields 25 yards out and her lofted shot cleared the O’s keeper to make it 2-2.
Tottenham always looked the most likely team to go on and win it, but they were once more denied until nine minutes from time, when Shields hit a low 30 yard free-kick into the area that deceived the keeper to provide Spurs with the winner.
It was a match they fully deserved to win, showing great character to reclaim the lead and securing the club’s first cup this season.
Team: Ricole Vyse, Cooper-Hutchinson, Shields, A. Keown, Ryah Vyse, Soobadoo (Taylor-Marks), Mills, Hunneyball, Hunte (Panayiotou), Downie, Richardson (Petros).
