Harrison on target as youngsters beat PSG in France

Fri 28 July 2017, 15:04|Tottenham Hotspur

Shayon Harrison’s perseverance eventually paid off from the penalty spot as our Development Squad picked up an impressive 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain to kick-off the European Under-21 Tournament in France today (Friday 28 July).

The striker hit the post and then had a goal ruled out for off-side as we sought a breakthrough against a stubborn PSG side in the first of our three group stage matches at the pre-season tournament in Ploufragan.

The French outfit subsequently hit the woodwork themselves in the 25 minutes each way contest, but our chance was taken six minutes from time when Joe Pritchard was felled in the box and Harrison buried the spot kick.

In all we had nine attempts at goal, four of which were on target, while restricting PSG to one shot on target and two off.

“It was a very good team performance,” beamed Under-23s Coach Wayne Burnett. “I felt we were in control of the game, we had some decent chances and overall it was a well-deserved win.

“From a tactical point of view, PSG played quite deep which made it difficult at times to break them down. The games here are quite close, especially when they’re only 25 minutes each way, but we had some good play.

“There’s still room for improvement, still things we need to work on, but we’re happy that we’ve managed to start the competition with a win.”

Our campaign continues tomorrow with matches against EA Guingamp (11.05am local time) and FC Lorient (5.15pm local time).

Spurs (v PSG): De Bie, Eyoma, Bennetts, Amos, C Maghoma, Tanganga, Tracey (Loft 38), Pritchard, Harrison, Duncan (Roles 38), Sterling (S Shashoua 25).
