Our opponents are perched just inside the drop zone heading into the game at the Lamex Stadium and Ugo expects them to be fighting for every ball in a bid to haul themselves away from danger.
With that in mind, our Under-21s Coach – himself a former Boro defender – says our boys must be ready to rise to the challenge and look to reproduce some of the football that saw us emerge as 2-1 winners from the reverse fixture back in November, as well as 3-0 victors from our trip to Leicester on March 18.
“There have been some home truths talked about lately – we’ve had some poor performances, some encouraging ones too, but we’d like to focus on the positive of the Leicester game last time out when there were real demands put on the players against a good, physical side and we managed to overcome that hurdle,” he said.
“Middlesbrough are battling for their lives, they’ll be looking to pick up maximum points from their remaining games so there’s got to be a sense of competitiveness from us again tonight with the basics, a great work ethic, belief and a desire to be effective in the key areas.
“We won 2-1 up at their place earlier in the season and that was actually our last league win pre-Leicester so the boys know the fixture quite well, but they also know that they can’t be inconsistent when it comes to performances. That game had quality, it had composure and it had good passing but we can’t be waiting three-and-a-half months to reproduce that so we’re looking forward to seeing what the boys can do tonight.”
Kyle Walker-Peters, who captained the team at Leicester, misses out as he serves a one-match ban following his sending-off against Norwich City last month.
Kick-off at the Lamex Stadium is at 7pm tonight. Tickets cost £5 for adults and £2 for concessions. If you can’t get to the game, be sure to follow us on Twitter @SpursOfficial for live updates.
