Goals from Jamal Lewis and Ray Grant in the first half left us with it all to do in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League contest, with captain Kyle Walker-Peters then sent off for two bookable offences in quick succession to make our task even harder.
Will Miller did manage to pull a goal back two minutes from time, but the Canaries escaped with a 2-1 win.
Almost 1,000 fans turned out to show their support for our youngsters on a chilly evening at White Hart Lane and midfielder Luke spoke of his disappointment that the players couldn’t give them a victory to shout about.
“To start off with we’re very embarrassed,” he admitted. “We’ve played Norwich here at White Hart Lane and we’ve not played the way we wanted to. The aim was to go out onto the pitch and win well but we’ve failed to do that tonight which is very disappointing.
“It’s especially disappointing after being here last weekend for the Arsenal game and hearing the fans, who absolutely love the club. We’re disappointed tonight that we couldn’t put on a performance.”
There was early drama in the game as Miller turned and fired over the bar with the goal gaping before Lewis opened the scoring at the other end within 60 seconds. Luke reflected on that moment with regret afterwards.
“I think after that early chance we gave away two poor goals and at this level, at any level, you’re punished if you make mistakes like that,” he added.
“From there it was always an uphill struggle. We tried but unfortunately we weren’t good enough on the night and I think everyone knows that. We’re all determined to do better and hopefully we can win our next game.”
