Ugo ready to take on Teddy again

Ugo Ehiogu described it as a ‘thinking man’s game’ when he used to face Teddy Sheringham on the pitch – now the pair lock horns again from the touchline as our Spurs XI take on Stevenage on Saturday.

Our legendary former striker and captain, Teddy joined Stevenage in May for his first managerial job and having faced his former clubs Millwall and Forest in pre-season, he now gets ready to face us at the Lamex Stadium (3pm).

Ugo and Teddy met many times during Ugo’s time as a centre-back at Villa and Middlesbrough.

“I played against Teddy and was with him in England squads as well, he’s a great bloke,” said coach Ugo.

“He was such an intelligent player, always found space and not someone you could just man-mark. He’d drop-off and try to tease you out of position. It was always a thinking man’s game when you came up against Teddy.”

Now they meet again and after a friendly against Peterborough United and competing in the National Under-21 Tournament in France, Ugo is ready for another tough outing for his squad.

“It will be another test, a competitive match against a league side and we’ll see where we are at this stage of pre-season,” said Ugo. “It’s a wonderful marker for us.

“We’ve spoken about some of the habits we want the players to have - winning habits, not being afraid to express themselves and decision making. This game will cover all those things.

“I’m sure it will be good for Teddy and Stevenage as well. They will want to fine-tune their players for the season and we’re pitting ourselves against what was a very competitive team in League Two last season.”

Tickets are available on the day at Stevenage.
