With five matches remaining we’re very much still in the title hunt, just five points behind leaders United with only 10 points between first and 11th!
Liverpool are one point ahead of us in third going into the fixture and victory at the Lane tonight would lift us back into second place.
The lads are still in touch despite losing a host of regulars out on loan including Dominic Ball, Emmanuel Sonupe, Nathan Oduwa, Shaq Coulthirst, Grant Ward and regular skipper Bongani Khumalo out on loan since the turn of the year.
“It’s been a wonderful effort so far from this group of players,” said Ugo. “We’re still in contention with six or seven genuine title contenders and we’ve said if we win four out of five we have a real chance.
“We’re a young squad at the moment, so that’s pleasing and the bigger picture is that the lads out on loan have gained valuable experience as well, some for the first time.
“We’d like to think they will build on that experience and meanwhile, we’ve maintained a competitive and technically efficient team with the players here, and that’s what you want.”
Etienne Capoue is in the squad for tonight’s fixture as the lads look to avenge a narrow 2-1 defeat against the Reds back in October.
“Any game against Liverpool is competitive, they beat us last time out and we always want to match our players against theirs,” added Ugo. “The teams have a similar philosophy, similar ways of doing things and it would be nice to say ours was better this time in the in performance and result.”
Etienne is joined by the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Kenny McEvoy and two players who have made their first team debuts this season in Josh Onomah and Harry Winks.
