Lynden Gooch netted the only goal of the game after five minutes as, despite Alex Pritchard and Josh Onomah going close on a handful of occasions, we were unable to get off the mark at the Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground.

Sunderland U21s: Stryjek, J Robson, T Robson, Agnew, Roberge, Beadling, Mavrias (Greenwood 37), Gomez (E Robson, 79), Mandron, Gooch, Buckley (Smith, 64). Substitutes (not used): Talbot, Brady.
