We’re currently second in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League table having claimed a hard-fought 2-1 win at Middlesbrough last week, with this evening’s clash representing a good chance to close the gap on leaders Sunderland.
As usual, Under-21s Coach Ugo’s focus is on the development of players and he’s called for some of our younger stars to step up and show their abilities once again in what he expects to be a tough test against the Saints.
“Every game is a huge test but the boys are playing well, confidence is high and we’re starting to get some really good performances from certain individuals, which is raising the group,” he said.
“With the game being at Stevenage and live on Spurs TV, it certainly has more of a first team feel and that’s what we’re trying to create. The senior environment and demands are all factors, meaning the boys have to turn up and continue the hard work that they’ve been doing.
“It’s always a test against Southampton and you never know who is going to play. They may have one or two senior pros – last year we were up against Ryan Bertrand – and the boys love that sort of thing because it’s a chance to test themselves against experienced players.
“But then again, if it’s a young team, you’ve got to stamp your authority and show what you can do. Those who go out there for us, we back them to put a performance on.”
Kick-off at the Lamex Stadium tonight is at 7pm. Watch the game live and in full on Spurs TV for free at this link. We’re on air at 6.30pm with all the build-up.
Tickets for the game are available on the west stand turnstiles at Stevenage tonight, priced at £5 for adults and £2 for concessions (over-60s and under-16s).
