Young defender Cameron Carter-Vickers claimed a vital assist to help the USA open Group A proceedings with a 2-1 victory over Myanmar on Saturday.
With his side having fallen behind early on in Whangarei, centre-back Cameron went up for a corner and duly flicked Emerson Hyndman’s flag kick on into the path of Maki Tall – the latter finding the net to restore parity with 17 minutes played.
Fulham midfielder Hyndman won it for the States in the second half, with Cameron completing the full match. The USA meet hosts New Zealand on Tuesday.
There was no such joy for Milos Veljkovic and Serbia on Sunday, though, as they lost 1-0 to Uruguay in Group D. Defensive midfielder Milos, who also completed the full 90 minutes, will be hoping for better fortunes when his side takes on Mali on Wednesday.
