West Brom U18s vs Spurs - Kieran's preview

Posted on 1 May 2015  - 15:00

Kieran McKenna says there will be no letting up as our Under-18 season draws to an end – not least with the squad travelling to prestigious tournaments in Holland and Germany at the end of the month.

The lads have two matches remaining in the Final Stage of the Barclays U18 Premier League starting with a trip to West Brom tomorrow (Saturday, May 2, KO noon) before the finale against Villa at home on Saturday week (May 9, noon).

The league has been divided into three divisions after the regular season and we’re currently sixth in Group One.

The team that tops Group One in this final stage will be crowned overall Barclays U18 Premier League champions and although that honour is beyond us now, coach Kieran wants to go out on a high.

“The last couple of performances have been pleasing - the win against City, draw against Everton and there were lots of positives against a strong United side last week, even in defeat," said Kieran.

“We’re looking for the same again with individual positives and a team result.

“There is no letting up from the group and the intensity has been good this week.

“It’s important to finish well because we have back-to-back tournaments coming up at the end of May in Terborg (Holland) and Stemwede (Germany) and we'll play against top European and world opposition.

“These tournaments will stretch the players tactically, technically and physically so we all need to stay in top condition in the last couple of weeks of the season here.”
