Youngster Darren McQueen stole the show with a late cameo as our Under-18s beat Portsmouth 2-0 in the Premier Academy League on Saturday.
The Under-15 player entered the fray for his Under-18s debut just 10 minutes from time and bagged his first goal just five minutes later to secure a 2-0 victory.
It was a young team with five First Years and two Under-16 players - Laste Dombaxe and Jack Barthram - in the starting line-up.
Coach Alex Inglethorpe reported: "It was a very good win. Portsmouth are a difficult team to play against and it was a tricky playing surface, a bit dry and bobbly, but we showed great quality and controlled the game.
"We started well and created plenty of chances in the first half. We actually hit the woodwork three times through Paul Jose M'poku, Alex Pritchard and Kudus Oyenuga but it stayed goalless at half-time.
"We kicked on from that in in the second half and dominated more and more and eventually took the lead after 65 minutes.
"It was a good move, Paul Jose M'poku centred with his right foot and Laste Dombaxe showed good control before finishing.
"We tired a little, Pompey came back into it but we made it 2-0 with about five minutes left. Darren McQueen, who is only 14, came on as a late substitute and received the ball, shifted past his defender with pace before firing home from just outside the box. It was a great start for a 14-year-old."
