Our Under-18s produced an impressive display despite a 1-0 loss at all-conquering Leicester City on Saturday.
The Foxes remained unbeaten in winning Group B of the Premier Academy League last season and are top again in the early stages this time around.
Once again, it was a young side that took to the field at Leicester's training ground in Aylestone including Under-16 player Shaq Coulthirst and five First Year trainees.
In an even first half, Jesse Waller Lassen almost forced home the opening goal when his dart to the byline and low cross was turned onto his own post by a defender.
It remained goalless until the match-deciding moment on the hour, when Foxes broke through centrally and eventually fired a shot across Jordan Archer into the corner.
Alex Pritchard (pictured) had a late chance to rescue a point but just as he looked to pull the trigger in front of goal, a Leicester defender apperared from nowhere to block.
"I was delighted with the lads," said coach Alex Inglethorpe.
"Leicester are one of the best youth teams in England, a big, powerful side and they had three Under-19 players in their starting line-up.
"We had a young side and of course there were concerns beforehand because if they didn't compete on an individual and team basis, we'd be in trouble.
"But we've seen indivuduals growing in stature in the last few weeks, players like Jesse Waller Lassen, Alex Pritchard and Zaine Francis-Angol and they were all excellent again.
"I was pleased with how all the players applied themselves and in the end we were unlucky not to nick a point when Alex had that chance. We all fancied him to score but the defender managed to get back to him."
