Our Under-18s got their defence of the Tournoi International de Monthey off to the perfect start with a 4-1 win over hosts FC Monthey.
The lads bounced back from the disappointment of losing out to Arsenal in the FA Premier Academy League Final 10 days ago and opened the scoring early on.
Nathan Byrne did well to get across his marker to convert a cross after good build-up play, before John Bostock added a classy second, finishing well from outside the box after a strong run.
Although Monthey pulled one back before half-time, we soon restored our two-goal lead through Yaser Kasim, before Paul-Jose M'Poku added a fourth late on.
Coach Alex Inglethorpe said: "We started really well and created a lot of chances, and although we went into the break a little deflated after conceding, full credit to the players for the way they responded in the second half.
"They've played a lot of games this year but the level of performance is still very high, but there's a long way to go in this tournament."
The lads now face Croatian giants Hajduk Split in their second group game this evening before taking on Marseille on Friday.
