Our Under-18s paid for missed chances as they suffered a 2-0 defeat against MK Dons on Saturday.

The chances arrived in a dominant period in the first half after MK had taken a 17th-minute lead.

However, the chances came and went and after a more disjointed second half, MK secured maximum points with the second goal five minutes from time.

Academy manager John McDermott takes up the story. "The first half was quite an open game and I felt Milton Keynes were only really a danger from our unforced errors.

"We gave the ball away in the final third a number of times and they eventually scored as a result of that, direct from a free-kick after 17 minutes.

"We had five clear-cut chances after that when we managed to get players through on goal but the MK goalkeeper did well and denied us with saves and blocks.

"In the second half MK were very efficient at closing the game down and we ended up getting frustrated and slightly desperate in our play.

"From our point of view, the second half became a bit stop-start and ugly but full credit to MK, they imposed their style on us. In the end, they scored a second goal as we pushed forward for an equaliser.

"There were some positives in the first half but in the second half there were lessons to be learned on not becoming frustrated, remaining positive in our play and adapting to difficult opponents."
