Grant Ward struck in injury time to rescue a point for our Under-18s in the Premier Academy League at Southampton.
The full-back entered the fray as a substitute with 20 minutes and was in the right place at the right time to nod home Jack Barthram's cross as it finished 2-2 at the Saints' Staplewood Training Ground.
The lads trailed twice as Southampton opened the scoring on 20 minutes, Shaq Coulthirst levelled a minute into the second half but the home took the lead again late on before Ward's leveller.
"We thoroughly deserved a draw," said Under-18s coach Alex Inglethorpe.
"We played really well, especially in the second half and I was delighted with out style of play.
"We started well, looked comfortable but went a goal behind after a small error led to a counter-attack. That was very much against the run of play.
"Shaq Coulthirst levelled quickly in the second half and we had another chance when Kenneth McEvoy went through one-on-one.
"Southampton went ahead with 10 minutes to go and we felt a little aggrieved because we thought there was a handball in the build-up.
"But we kept going and managed to score right at the end.
"It stemmed from Jack Barthram, who was outstanding. He got forward from right-back and had a shot that was saved, managed to get to the rebound first and stood up a fine cross for Grant Ward to finish."
