Kudus Oyenuga struck late to secure a deserved 4-2 win for our Under-18s over Chelsea on Saturday.
It was a rollercoaster encounter in the Premier Academy League at Spurs Lodge as the lads looked in complete control at 2-0 up thanks to a double from Alex Pritchard.
Chelsea replied five minutes into the second half and then Pritchard missed a hat-trick chance when his penalty was saved.
The visitors levelled with 15 minutes remaining but the lads regrouped and Oyenuga's poacher's goal after 81 minutes and then a fine individual effort three minutes later saw the lads home.
Pritchard provided the perfect start with a clean strike to open the scoring after four minutes.
Alex Inglethorpe was forced into an earlty reshuffle when centre-back James Yeboah was forced off with a head injury. Kevin Stewart came on at left-back, Zaine Francis-Angol switched centrally alongside Olumide Durojaiye.
Chelsea goalkeeper Jemal Blackman kept out Pritchard and Paul Jose M'poku from close range before an outstanding second goal.
Pritchard curved his run between defenders and M'poku slipped through the inch-perfect pass that allowed him to flick past Blackman with one touch.
Jonathan Miles made fine saves either side of the interval but Chelsea replied in the 52nd minute with a good finish from Toddy Kane.
Blackman then twice denied Pritchard a hat-trick with a save from a close-range header and diving the right way to turn a penalty aside after Jesse Waller Lassen was brought down.
Pritchard next curled onto the roof of the net and it looked like the lads might regret the near misses when Bobby Devyne latched onto a ball over the top to level after 76 minutes.
That might have knocked the stuffing out of the team but they recovered to win the game.
Oyenuga reacted quickly to Tom Carroll's quickly taken free-kick and dink over the advancing Blackman to into the far corner for 3-2 after 81 minutes.
Three minutes later and the striker capped a fine display with a solo goal, running from halfway into the penalty area before striking low into bottom corner.
