Coach Alex Inglethorpe takes up the story. “I was really pleased with the first half performance. We moved the ball around and had a threat from the left, the right and the middle, controlled the game and defended well. We were 2-0 up and it could have been more.
“The first goal came after good work on the left from Yuri Berchiche, took on a couple of players before laying it inside for Andros Townsend, who finished well from just inside the box.
“That was after 25 minutes and the second goal was a free-kick won by Alex Olsen on the edge of the area and Yuri smashed it home from 22, 23 yards.
“You do worry at 2-0 because the third goal is then vital – if it goes your way, things become a lot easier and you tend to score a fourth or fifth. If the opposition score, it gives them the incentive to come and attack and that’s what happened.
“We lost our way a bit with the ball but defended stoutly, Cardiff applied lots of pressure and scored a penalty with 15 minutes to go. We responded well though as we went straight up the other end and scored a third goal through Kyle Fraser-Allen, who reacted first to a clearance from Chris Casey and finished well.”
