Our Under-18s enjoyed a 3-1 win against Cardiff City on Saturday.

Our Under-18s enjoyed a 3-1 win against Cardiff City on Saturday.

Andros Townsend, Yuri Berchice and Kyle-Fraser Allen bagged the goals in the FA Premier Academy League encounter.

Coach Alex Inglethorpe takes up the story. “I was really pleased with the first half performance. We moved the ball around and had a threat from the left, the right and the middle, controlled the game and defended well. We were 2-0 up and it could have been more.

“The first goal came after good work on the left from Yuri Berchiche, took on a couple of players before laying it inside for Andros Townsend, who finished well from just inside the box.

“That was after 25 minutes and the second goal was a free-kick won by Alex Olsen on the edge of the area and Yuri smashed it home from 22, 23 yards.

“You do worry at 2-0 because the third goal is then vital – if it goes your way, things become a lot easier and you tend to score a fourth or fifth. If the opposition score, it gives them the incentive to come and attack and that’s what happened.

“We lost our way a bit with the ball but defended stoutly, Cardiff applied lots of pressure and scored a penalty with 15 minutes to go. We responded well though as we went straight up the other end and scored a third goal through Kyle Fraser-Allen, who reacted first to a clearance from Chris Casey and finished well.”

Spurs U18s: Button, Mtandari, Berchiche, Kasim (Cox, 80), C Butcher, Casey, Fraser-Allen, Parrett, Olsen (Mason, 46), Obika, Townsend. Unused subs: Clare, Dalton.
