West Ham U18s 1-1 Spurs - Kieran's verdict

Kieran McKenna felt the performance of our Under-18s warranted a better result after we drew 1-1 at West Ham United in the Barclays Under-18 Premier League on Saturday.

Kazaiah Sterling cancelled out Oscar Borg’s opener following a well-crafted move in the first half as we bossed the possession at Little Heath without creating too many clear-cut chances.

Skipper Jaden Brown and Sterling both went close in the last few minutes as we pushed for a winner, but Under-18s Coach Kieran admitted lessons will be learned after we failed to make our control of the game count.

“The boys are disappointed not to have got the win,” he said. “We dominated possession right through the game, really controlled the territory and had West Ham camped in their half, but unfortunately we didn’t create as many clear-cut chances from our possession as we would have liked and with the big chances that we did get, we didn’t manage to take them.

“I thought it was a good response from the boys after going 1-0 down. They went right back at it again, worked hard to score a really good goal and from there I really fancied us to go on and win the game.

“Unfortunately we didn’t manage to do that this time, but it’ll be a good lesson for the boys in terms of playing against a packed defence and learning how they can break that down.”
