West Ham U18s vs Spurs - Kieran's preview

Kieran McKenna says there’s fierce competition for places as our Under-18s prepare for their first London derby of the season on Saturday.

We travel to West Ham United in the Barclays Under-18 Premier League off the back of a convincing 5-1 home win over Brighton last weekend, with a tough game in prospect against our close rivals.

Under-18s Coach Kieran says the players involved against the Seagulls are determined to put on another good performance, but has warned they’ll face a battle for their shirts with many of the first year scholars involved in a successful tournament campaign in Liverpool last weekend also staking a claim for a place in the squad.

“We had a good start to the season last weekend in terms of the performance and the good news ahead of Saturday is that we’ve almost got a clean bill of health, so a lot of players are looking to be involved,” he said.

“Those involved against Brighton are in contention to play again, as are the boys who went up to Liverpool last weekend to take part in an Under-17 tournament, so we’ve got a lot of players competing for 11 shirts.

“The match is just down the road as well, so it promises to be a competitive game and it’s up to the boys to prepare themselves to match the intensity that West Ham will bring and show their qualities on the pitch.”

Kick-off at Little Heath is at 11am. Follow us on Twitter @SpursOfficial for live updates.
