Despite having the majority of the possession and efforts at goal, we emerged empty-handed from our final Barclays Under-18 Premier League game of the season – Jake Humphries netting a breakaway goal two minutes from time to hand Villa the victory at the Training Centre.
Ryan Loft had twice cancelled out the visitors’ lead earlier in the game, with Under-18s Coach Kieran McKenna left to reflect on missed opportunities.
“In terms of the balance of play and chances I think it was a harsh result,” he said. “We more than merited the goals that we got, however it’s important that the players reflect on their ability to win games and to kill games off at the attacking end whenever we’re having these chances.
“Also the defenders have to make sure that, while we’re attacking, they keep the door shut at the other end.
“Overall, on the balance of play in between the penalty boxes, the performance was of a good level but it was very disappointing at both ends of the pitch in terms of the execution.”
The lads will this week jet off to the Netherlands in advance of the start of the Terborg Tournament on Friday, May 15.
