Spurs Under-18s 0-2 Reading

Our Under-18s were struck down by two fine Reading goals in the space of five minutes in the first half of Saturday's encounter.

Coach Pat Holland takes up the story. "We started off brightly, forced a couple of corners and then against a well-organised Reading side we fell behind after about 15 minutes.

"It was a good goal from their point of view, the lad chipped Tommy with the outside of his right foot, an excellent goal.

"Five minutes later it was 2-0 and another great goal, this time the fella hit it from the edge of the box into the top corner. So all of a sudden, having started well, we're 2-0 down.

"At half-time I brought on Danny Stevens for Brian Mascarhenas and we went like for like with their formation and from there it became very much an even contest.

"We had our chances, they broke and had a couple of half-chances as well but at the end of it we didn't do enough in the first half and they deserved their victory.

"Having said that, there were a couple of bright performances."
