FA PREMIER ACADEMY LEAGUE
Spurs U18s 3-3 MK Dons
Pat Holland's substitutions had the desired effect as our Academy side came from 3-1 down to secure a point against MK Dons.
Jamie O'Hara, Simon Dawkins and Andy Barcham were all rested after their FA Youth Cup exploits in midweek as Pat gave a chance to the rest of his squad.
He was also without injured defensive pairing Charlie Lee and Leigh Mills so it was with every reason he was delighted with the lads bright start as they dictated play and went ahead via Kieran McKenna's (pictured left) penalty.
But some sloppy defending saw MK Dons hit back for a 2-1 lead at half-time and then extend it to 3-1 minutes into the second half.
Pat threw on O'Hara, Dawkins and Barcham, Barcham soon set up Dawkins for 3-2 before Stuart Lewis hit a cracker for the equaliser.
Pat reflected: "The first 25 minutes we played ever so well, kept good possession, got into some good areas and then got a penalty.
"The defender fell on the floor as we crossed and the ball caught him on the arm. For me it was a penalty and Kieran McKenna scored from the spot.
"We then lost our way a little. They had a tall side and I remember telling the lads before we went out not to give any silly free-kicks away because we're not a tall side but they got a free-kick, knocked it into the box, we never dealt with it and they scored from the first connection in the six-yard box, which was disappointing.
"Five minutes later, sloppy play and we're suddenly 2-1 and chasing the game that we were playing quite well in.
"We had a chat at half-time, kept it as it was but then we went 3-1 down, ball played inside the full-back, cross came in and it looked like an own goal.
"We changed it, brought Jamie O'Hara on at centre-half - we were short of centre-halves because Leigh Mills and Charlie Lee were injured - and Andy Barcham down the right.
"We started to liven up and I then threw on Simon Dawkins and we looked as if we could cause them problems.
"There was a bit of a scramble in their area and Andy Barcham did ever so well, made a bit of space and rolled it to Simon Dawkins who slotted from six yards.
"Five minutes later, Stuart Lewis (pictured right) got the ball and drove it 25 yards into the bottom corner from 25 yards for 3-3, a terrific goal. We also had a great chance right at the end where we could have equalised.
"All in all, a great fightback, disappointing that they went 3-1 up after our start but the substitutions worked for us."
