Saints U18s v Spurs - John's preview

Posted on 21 August 2015  - 12:13

John McDermott has called for our Under-18s to be “purposeful” when going forward against Southampton on Saturday.

We return to action in the Barclays Under-18 Premier League with a trip to the Saints’ Staplewood training ground, kick-off 11.30am, following a 1-1 draw at West Ham last week.

With an Under-21s game at Sunderland also taking place on Sunday, Academy Manager John is looking for positive performances on the south coast at the start of what’s set to be a busy weekend for our young players.

“Southampton are good opponents, they’ve got some great new facilities down there with a big pitch but you can never predict how the game is going to go,” he said.

“I’m sure it will be a good test for both teams and hopefully some more Premier League players of the future will be on display.

“It’s been business as usual for our players this week, all the boys have got different things they’re working on individually and when it comes to the game, we want to be more purposeful in our attacking play.

“It’s a busy weekend of football so many of our senior Academy players and young professionals are going to be involved in either the Southampton game or the Sunderland game.”

We’ll have half- and full-time updates from the game on Twitter @SpursOfficial in the build-up to Saturday afternoon’s Premier League match at Leicester.
