Leicester U18s v Spurs - Kieran's preview

Posted on 29 January 2016  - 15:02

Our Under-18s return to domestic duties on Saturday with a trip to Leicester City, kick-off 11.30am.

It’s only our second Barclays Under-18 Premier League fixture since the start of December and our first since a 4-2 defeat at Chelsea on January 9, with the lads having been in Mexico for the Copa Chivas in recent weeks, in addition to having reached the final of the IMG Cup in Florida just before the festive period.

We bowed out in the group stage in Mexico, but Under-18s Coach Kieran McKenna said it was a valuable experience – and he’s now looking for the boys to apply some of the lessons learned during the recent period to their performances in the league, starting against the Foxes.

“For us it’s obviously the first game coming off the back of the latest tour this weekend and it represents a return to league action after a long break, but the key thing we’re looking for is who can put the lessons that they’ve learned during their recent experiences in tournament football back into their development,” he said.

“Saturday will be the first opportunity to do that in a match. We know it’s always a tough game away at Leicester but we’ll be looking for the boys to implement the things that they’ve learned over the last couple of months.

“The lads are going to have times when everything goes well and times where it’s a battle and things don’t come easily, but that’s the nature of being a young player. When things aren’t going well for them, individually it’s a time to show character, show resilience and try to put things into place that they know will improve them.

“We’re very much keeping a positive frame of mind because we’ve had some potentially really good learning experiences in recent times and in the end it will be the boys who can learn the most who will go furthest in their careers.”

Kick-off at Leicester’s training ground on Saturday is at 11.30am. We’ll have half- and full-time updates on Twitter @SpursOfficial in and around our coverage of the FA Cup fourth round tie at Colchester United.
