Kieran McKenna praised our Under-18s’ resilience as they withstood the blow of being reduced to 10 men to see out a 2-0 victory at Arsenal on Friday.

Two goals from Ismail Azzaoui saw us pick up our first win in the Barclays Under-18 Premier League since the opening day of the season, having registered five draws since then.

A second yellow card shown to right-back Anton Walkes mid-way through the second half failed to derail us, with Under-18s Coach Kieran happy with the way we adapted.

“It was a real sign of toughness and maturity how we dealt with the red card and we’ve been looking at that for a while,” he said. “We’ve had quite a few games this year where we’ve had the lead and not managed it well, but we did better today.

“It was a different type of game in that we didn’t have as much control of the possession as we usually do because of the way they pressed, but the boys recognised where the opportunities were to exploit the opposition and took them.

“Really in the second half we probably should have got a few more goals, but we were gritty and we still created chances at the other end so it was very pleasing.”
