FA PREMIER ACADEMY LEAGUE PLAY-OFFS
West HamU17s 2 Spurs 1
Our brave Under-17s finally bowed out of the end-of-season play-offs at the national stage against highly-fancied Hammers on Saturday.
But they didn’t go without a fight. In fact, they took the lead through John Sutton, a crisp effort from 18 yards, after 15 minutes and in a first half they dominated were unlucky to see Nicky Wetner’s effort hit the woodwork.
Two identical goals — a cross from the right and finish - put the home side in the driving seat in a 15-minute spell at the start of the second half.
We still came back for more and were desperately unlucky to see Sutton hit the woodwork and Mark Hughes have claims for a header that looked to have crossed the line waved away.
Coach Michael Stone reflected: “The lads really gave it a go and have every reason to be proud of their efforts.
“We actually deserved more than we got and were punished by two sloppy goals defensively. The lads were deflated at the final whistle but it has been a massive achievement to reach the last eight nationally.”
Spurs U17s: Burch, Lee, Henry, Kelly, Herron, Hughes, Marney, Wetner, Barnard, Sutton, Noto (Slabber, 75).
