Ralph Coates has paid tribute to the work of the Tottenham Tribute Trust.
The TTT - dedicated to reaching out to help former Spurs players who are fighting hard times either financially, medically or both - provided assistance to our legendary former winger when he required surgery on a troublesome knee.
A big favourite at Spurs and Burnley, Ralph will always be remembered for hitting our winning goal against Norwich City in the 1973 League Cup Final at Wembley.
Now 63, Ralph, who made almost 250 competitive appearances for us between 1971-78 and was capped four times by England, takes up the story.
"I had a new knee joint put in," he said. "I should have had it done a year, year-and-a-half ago but I put it off and put it off and it wasn't until the Trust approached me and said ‘we've heard about your knee, Ralph' and I told them it was a bit sore and they insisted I got it done.
"I'm so appreciative that I've got it done and it feels so much better already.
"The great thing is that I didn't approach the Trust, they came to me.
"In fact, I was very reluctant to get involved. I'd been waiting over a year to get my knee done but it was on the insistence of the Trust and down to their persuasion that I got it done, otherwise I would have still be waiting.
"They were still concerned about my health and well being all these years after I last played for Spurs. That's what makes it so special.
"Spurs have always had a great support and I know that as well as anyone, they were always behind me when I played and have remained so after I played. To continue that support in this way after I've finished playing - it's something I've never heard of before.
"It shows they don't want players to be forgotten. They don't want players to just play for the club, finish and that's it. They appreciate the players from the past and if they are able to help, they will do. I was humbled by it all."
