Spurs fan Trott previews Ashes series

Ever wondered what it’s like to be an England cricketer facing the Aussies in an Ashes Test Down Under?

Jonathan is looking forward to another Ashes showdownTrott shows his colours with pride!

On the eve of the latest Ashes showdown, England batsman Jonathan Trott gave the perfect insight for his fellow Spurs fans.

“You need earplugs because of all the abuse you get from the Australians!” he laughed.

“Imagine taking a corner for Spurs at the Emirates or Chelsea. You are standing by the corner flag ready to take that corner, but in our case it’s in the field and you are there for six hours!

“I enjoy it though. I like to give a bit back. Don’t forget last time I was there, I was in after two or three balls!”

Jonathan was in fine form with an 83 in England’s final warm-up game against Cricket Australia Invitational XI last week.

From Sydney, the team travelled to Brisbane for the first Test of the five-test 2013-14 Ashes Series at midnight tonight (Wednesday into Thursday).

From there, it’s Adelaide (December 5-9), Perth (December 13-17), Melbourne (December 26-30, actually starts at 11.30pm, December 25, UK time) and finally the fifth Test in Sydney (January 3-7, actually starts 11.30pm, January 2, UK time).

England are aiming for a third-successive Ashes victory having won 2-1 in 2009, 3-1 in Australia in 2010-11 and 3-0 back on home soil this summer.

Jonathan made his debut in the 2009 series – becoming only the 18th player to score a century in his debut Test – and has a 100 per cent record against the old enemy.

“We went there last time expecting a really tough time, managed to win 3-1 and played some fantastic cricket,” he said.

“We managed to win 3-0 (in the summer) but I don’t think we managed to play anywhere near our capabilities. We did in bits and pieces, but not for a whole Test.

“Hopefully we’ll do that in Australia. A fourth Ashes victory has a nice ring to it!”
