Trio to miss reserve clash

Posted on 13 February 2001  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Stephen Carr, Chris Armstrong and Stephen Clemence have been withdrawn from this evening's (Tuesday) reserve fixture against Wimbledon at St Albans (ko 7.30pm).

The experienced threesome are not injured, but are not playing as a precaution with the vital FA Cup 5th round clash against Stockport coming up at the Lane on Saturday.

Carr and Armstrong have returned to the senior squad in a substitute role for the last two games, while Clemence has seen his left wing-back position filled by Luke Young.

Chris Hughton said this afternoon: "Sometimes you think about certain situations and, of course, we have a very big game on Saturday and we don’t really want to take too many chances.

"So lads like Stephen Clemence, Stephen Carr and Chirs Armstrong, who were going to play for us tonight, are now not going to.

"We still have the regular reserve team players and this gives a chance for the likes of John Jackson, who has been with England under-18s and young Destin Makumbu. He has always been a promising youth player, but has had his problems with injuries and is a lad we need to look at."
