We’ve travelled on from Malaysia for the second leg of our post-season tour, with the team set to take on Sydney FC in a high-profile friendly on Saturday.
We were last in action Down Under back in 1985, where we faced Italian side Udinese, Brazilian outfit Vasco da Gama and the Australian national team.
Former central defender Paul – known as ‘Maxy’ – says it was fantastic to meet so many Spurs fans on the trip and says the chance to get out and about in the community was just as enjoyable as the matches themselves.
“I hadn’t been to Australia before so it was my first time there and I have to say, the tour was fantastic,” he recalled.
“We visited Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide to play matches, we went to the dogs, the races – socially it was wonderful.
“We’d travelled on from Hong Kong where we’d played a game. That Hong Kong match was, without a doubt, the hottest I’ve ever been in any football match in my life. At half-time we stood under a cold shower with our kits on!
“But Australia was great, we met a lot of supporters down there, they made us feel very welcome and I thoroughly enjoyed the trip.”
