The new pair won't forget their competitive debuts for the club in a hurry as Southampton won the FA Premier Reserve League clash 5-0 at Stevenage Borough on Monday night.
Clive was quick to point out that the new lads shouldn't be judged on that performance and that in terms of the reserve team, it will only get better for them.
"It was an extremely difficult debut for them both," reasoned coach Clive. "I'm sure they had great expectations of what it would be like but what they've seen and experienced is the tough side of English football.
"They've probably heard all about it and now they've experienced it.
"It would be unkind to judge them on that performance and to be fair, I thought both stuck to their tasks.
"Emil grew stronger as the game went on and showed some of the strengths he has while David just didn't get enough of the ball.
"You can see that he can go by a player and take players on but unless we get the ball to him he won't get the opportunity to do it.
"I've seen in brief spells the quality they both possess and they now need to take that from training into matches. It was a tough baptism for them and they'll now have a strong idea of what is needed.
"I said to both that they've played in our team at it's worst and it can only get better for them."
Clive Allen put his arm around Emil Hallfredsson and David Limbersky after their reserve debuts and told them: "Welcome to English football!"
