Tottenham Hotspur Foundation has joined forces with Nando’s to pilot a recruitment programme designed to help local people find jobs with local employers.

Over 50 unemployed young people attended the training day at Nando’s in Walthamstow where the Foundation and senior managers from the restaurant chain delivered a number of activities to help make participants more job-ready.

Young people were given an opportunity to see first-hand what it takes to work in a busy Nando’s restaurant, the type of job roles available and the qualities needed to secure them.

By splitting into groups, the participants completed question and answer sessions with Nando’s management and were given the chance to carry out practical tasks to test their skills, such as customer service role play.

The Foundation’s Employment team used its Assets For Success initiative as a core part of the training day to help young people develop their personal qualities and maximise their potential in the workplace. Participants were asked to give themselves a score for completing a range of activities, which enabled them to see what assets they already have and any areas for improvement.

At the end of the training, all those interested in applying for a job at Nando’s were invited to do so. Two of the young people have already secured employment with the Walthamstow restaurant and  a number of applicants asked to return for a trial shift.

Omar, a participant on the day, said: “It was one of the best decisions I have made attending the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and Nando’s recruitment day. I have learnt so much about assets and being confident in interviews.”

Nikki Kelly, Acting Chief Executive Officer at Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, said: "We were thrilled to see so many young people turn up for the training day, using our network to connect employers with local unemployed people who are ready to work.

"The majority of participants had little or no work experience so it was an invaluable exercise for them.

"The pilot was a huge success with a number of young people securing trial shifts at Nando’s restaurants across North London and multiple interviews already set up. On behalf of everyone at the Foundation, we’d like to thank Nando’s Walthamstow for their support."
