• Development is a 100% affordable scheme with 222 new homes and a new Primary School
The Cannon Road development in Tottenham, one of the first to be delivered as part of the regeneration of the area, has been named ‘Affordable Housing Development of the Year’ at the Top 60 Development Awards organised by Inside Housing.
Inside Housing is the UK’s leading magazine for the affordable housing industry and the award recognises how local needs have been met, social value to residents and the wider community and affordability.
Cannon Road was officially opened by the Club and Newlon Housing Trust in November 2015 after the redevelopment of a derelict rubber factory in North Tottenham.
Just a stone’s throw from the construction site of our 61,000-seater new stadium, Cannon Road includes 222 high-specification new homes, making it a 100% affordable scheme.
As a commitment to sustainability, the site has its own Combined Heat and Power plant and all housing is built to lifetime homes standards.
Cannon Road also became the new site of Brook House Primary School, providing improved educational facilities to 420 local young people.
Through the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, the Club is supporting the school with its physical activity lessons which includes the delivery of 5.5 hours of sports sessions each week.
Daniel Levy, Chairman, said: “We are committed to investing in our community and ensuring local residents have access to affordable housing and quality education facilities.
“This prestigious award is recognition of the fantastic scheme that Newlon Housing Trust has worked hard with us to deliver as part of our continued aims to transform the Tottenham area.”
Mike Hinch, Chief Executive, Newlon Housing Trust, said: “We are delighted that Cannon Road has won this award which recognises the transformation of this part of Tottenham High Road from a brownfield site into a thriving and sustainable new community.
“Cannon Road is a landmark development which contributes to the ongoing regeneration of the area driven by Spurs’ new stadium project.”
