The 4-1 win against Bolton at the Lane and in particular the performance of Dimitar Berbatov, February 25…
We made a bright start and led 3-0 but the game changed when Robbie Keane was sent off for handball and Bolton scored from the spot. However, the 10 men, led by Berbatov up front, were magnificent and capped it with a fourth at the end.
WHAT THE FANS SAID…
Mark Lever: “We were simply outstanding that day, both incisive up front and safe in defence – the best team performance of the season, and worthy of a place in the top 10.”
David Nash: “Berbatov's performance in the entire game was nothing short of a masterclass and this is especially demonstrated by the bit of skill that made Campo look foolish. Berbatov was at the byline with Campo blocking his route to goal before he flicked the ball up and around Campo and almost set up a goal.”
Robert Wells: “The best moment for me was watching Berba against Bolton at the Lane. Pure genius.”
Geof Hendrick: “It was the best display by a lone striker that I have ever seen - and I have followed Spurs since 1959. It was also a great team effort when we were down to 10 men.”
Brian Goodman: “Not so much a moment but 90 minutes. For me, it's Berbatov's performance in the 4-1 win over Bolton. It has been a long time since I've seen one player put on such a masterclass. Exciting, enthralling, it was real skill.”
Roger Bull: “My best moment was the home game against Bolton where the team showed everything you need to be a top outfit all in one match against one of the toughest defences in the league. The second half featured immaculate defending, incisive counter attacking and a wonderful exhibition of centre forward play by Berbatov, whose control and hold up play was world class, culminating in a fourth goal to kill Bolton off. The best Spurs performance I have seen for many a year.”
Paul Robinson’s goal v Watford, White Hart Lane, March 17…
Leading 1-0, Robbo struck a free-kick from deep in our half that led to a misunderstanding between Watford keeper Ben Foster and his defence and the ball bouncing over the stranded keeper and into the empty net.
WHAT THE FANS SAID...
Howard Sherbourne: “I was sat in the East stand parallel with the edge of the Watford penalty area. I watched Robbo take the free-kick and, along with those seated around me, I was in total disbelief. We all cheered and laughed at the same time! Poor old Foster in the Watford goal!”
Jo Brooks: “It has to be Robbo's goal. Being a fellow northerner, I've always had a soft spot for the big man, and read many interviews where he talked about being a frustrated striker! Given that he wasn't even trying to score a goal, and that happened, and everyone was so happy and laughing and cheering in a different kind of way to how they usually do (as it was incredibly funny), it just summed up a great day at the Lane. Plus the icing on the cake, my husband and I are in almost every photo in the background cheering our silly heads off! Excellent!”
Kay Harris: "Paul Robinson's goal against Watford. I wasn't at the match but the commentator couldn't believe what he saw. It was a classic moment and when the crowd quickly sang to Robbo ‘Nice one Robbo, nice one son’, Paul's face was a picture of extreme delight.”
Vic Thompson: “I sit in the lower tier of the Paxton - and I can say that one of my most memorable moments was Robbo's goal against Watford, as we were able to watch the ball bounce over Foster into the goal and witness first hand the expressions of disbelief on him and the defenders in front of him. I was fortunate to have been present at a similar occurrence involving Pat Jennings.”
Chris Ellis: “The atmosphere after Robbo's goal against Watford when the whole stadium erupted after a slight pause of disbelief, followed by the entire stadium bursting into song with ‘England’s number 1’ was enough to make the hairs stand up on end. It will never be forgotten by anybody lucky enough to be inside the stadium!”
