Tom Huddlestone said it will be a big thrill to be part of the occasion when England Under-21s kick-off a new era at the new Wembley Stadium.
The midfielder, a regular at Under-21 level in the last couple of seasons, will look to earn his 15th cap when Wembley opens its doors for its first football international, the friendly between England and Italy on Saturday, kick-off 12.30pm.
He hopes the England side will be able to provide a performance to match the setting and lay the foundations for future national success.
"It is the first game and I think it sold out after six hours, with 60,000 people coming to watch," said the 20-year-old. "It says something for the supporters in that they are keen to see the new place.
"Maybe getting the new Wembley sorted is a bit overdue, but now it is done hopefully we will put on a good performance for the first game.
"It is something you dream of, I didn't get the chance to play at the original Wembley, so hopefully this one will generate a similar sort of atmosphere and will be successful for England."
