Tom Huddlestone admits he was not expecting his latest call-up to the England squad - but now he is ready to live out every boy's dream.

What a game for which to earn full selection for only the second time in his career - a showpiece friendly with five-time World Champions Brazil!

And who can argue that the midfielder hasn't earned his chance having started every game for his club so far this season.

On being named in Fabio Capello's 23-man party, Tom said: "It's very pleasing - and a bit of a surprise.

"I've been in the last couple of preliminary squads but to be in the final 23, especially for a game against Brazil, is something special.

"I've said all along that the most important thing is playing week in week out and anything else on top of that is a bonus.

"This is a bonus but one that I'll thoroughly enjoy and hopefully, if I can get on at the weekend, I'll be able to do myself justice."

Although still waiting for his first senior cap, Tom has been a name frequently on the lips of Head Coach Capello as he looks ahead to next summer's World Cup in South Africa and beyond.

But the 22-year-old is not taking this latest boost for granted, saying: "It gives you confidence to hear praise from somebody with his experience and in his position as England manager.

"It's always nice to have compliments but I've just got to keep working hard on the training pitch and doing well in games to hopefully stay in the squad."

And it's a sign of how well things are going at the Lane at the moment, with Tom joined in the squad for the trip to Doha by Spurs team-mates Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe and Jermaine Jenas.

He added: "We've had a few slip-ups but, in the main, we've started off very well this season.

"We've got a good nucleus of English players and Fabio Capello seems to be rewarding the lads with places in his squad."

Meanwhile, another of our Three Lions representatives, Under-21 international Danny Rose, has been recalled from his loan spell at Championship side Peterborough United.

The midfielder, who made his first competitive appearance in our colours in the 5-1 Carling Cup victory over Doncaster Rovers in August, joined Posh at the end of September and went on to make six league appearances.
