Tom Huddlestone played 80 minutes as England drew 0-0 against the Czech Republic in their European U21 Championship opener on Monday.

Spurs team-mate Wayne Routledge came on for Kieran Richardson after 56 minutes while goalkeeper Ben Alnwick was an unused substitute.

Tom started centrally in a five-man midfield in the Group B encounter at the Gelredome in Arnhem, Holland and went close with a dipping volley in the first half.

England missed the best chance of the game when Reading striker Leroy Lita missed the target from the penalty spot with just two minutes remaining. United's Richardson also failed to connect with a header from close range and David Nugent of Preston angled a shot just wide.

However, the Czechs also had their chances and Scott Carson was forced to make two fine saves, one in each half.

England next take on Italy in Group B on Thursday, kick-off 7.45pm.

Decider for Stalteri

Paul Stalteri will captain Canada in their final CONCACAF Gold Cup group match against Haiti in Miami in the early hours of Tuesday morning - a victory will see them progress to the quarter-finals.
