The young midfielder who has just turned 20 has been in outstanding form of late, starting 14 of our last 19 games and scoring three goals.
Now he’s preparing for what he sees as his toughest test to date. “It will be, if selected,” stated Tom. “I remember doing an interview before the Victory Shield four or five years ago and I said then that he was one of the best around and that still stands, he’s gone from strength to strength.
“We know all about his qualities going forward and hopefully we’ll be able to counter that by pushing him the other way. Having said that, he’s a good defensive player as well.
“You don’t just have Steven Gerrard to worry about though, you’ve Xabi Alonso in there as well and three or four world-class forwards. Alonso is another player I admire. I watch a lot of Spanish football and he was a player I enjoyed watching when he was at Real Sociedad.
“Liverpool have strength throughout but we’re the home team and we have to concentrate on what we want to do.”
Tom Huddlestone is relishing the prospect of taking on Steven Gerrard and Xabi Alonso when we face Liverpool at the Lane on Saturday.
